Irish Studies in International Affairs

Rebecca Johnson’s chapter on “The humanitarian impacts of nuclear weapons — an imperative for achieving disarmament” was published in the journal of Irish Studies in International Affairs, volume 25, edited by John Doyle and published by the Royal Irish Academy, 2014. This chapter and many others in this volume were originally presented at a symposium on disarmament and nonproliferation, hosted in Academy House Dublin, in March 2014. Chapters such as these were part of Acronym’s work from 2009 to bring ICAN’s strategic and humanitarian arguments for a nuclear ban treaty to governments, civil society and mainstream academics, with the aim of building support for a treaty to stigmatize and prohibit nuclear weapons, thereby accelerating their total elimination.
